Korean dancer/choreographer Geumhyung Jeong tells us of the pursuit of the subject of her desire in the form of an extremely unique lecture that becomes a meta-performance of her existing work. While explaining her affair with an excavator, she talks about her past, and things become ambiguous whether the artist Geumhyung Jeong is introducing her piece or if we are hearing the confessions of the character inside the story. A fuzzy, puzzling and interesting performance unfolds on stage.

    Duration:

This presentation looks at questions of curatorial strategy in relation to performance and dance histories, and their re-activation and alteration through contemporary works. It focuses on what might be at stake, in temporal, experiential and mnemonic terms with new works and exhibitions that take fluid, processual and transformative approaches to the display of performance histories in the present. In particular it examines Moments: A History of Performance in 10 Acts (ZKM, 2012) both in terms of the revival of its constituent works and its curatorial sensibility. What is being re-performed and re-moved here, and what might such animations have to do with the survival and transmission of some of the more ineffable qualities of performance?

Dry Act # 2: South Domino is an evening of documentary, performance and games. One of iDANS’s co-productions this year, Dry Act # 2: South Domino deals with games that are considered culturally fundamental to a country, such as Backgammon in Turkey, Truco in Argentina or Chinese Chess in China. They use these games as a way to look at social interaction, decision-making and competitiveness and expose how such games can be seen both as metaphors and actual structures of social interaction.

In this triptych of related short plays, communication is not as smooth as silk: words are out of synch with gestures and each office worker seems to be dancing to his/her own drummer! Tokyo-based theater company chelfitsch led by the writer and director Toshiki Okada depicts in his signature style of humorous cynicism the “selfishness” of a generation in Japan.
